Youth empowerment remains one of my cardinal objective in the Senate - Sen. Austin Akobundu
The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Sen. Austin Akobundu has said that youth empowerment remains an integral part of his senatorial mandate.
He made the statement today, 31st March 2024, when delegates from the Oloko Youths Forum paid him a courtesy visit at his country home in Oloko, Ikwuano LGA. The visit offered an opportunity for a round table discussion which was marked by constructive dialogue and mutual appreciation.
In his address, the president of the Youth Forum, Hon Raphael Ojeigbo, highlighted the commendable actions and initiatives undertaken by the Distinguished Senator in the brief span of just five months since assuming office. This included achievements such as bringing electricity to Oloko, sending residents of Ikwuano for national assignments with associated benefits, creating numerous job opportunities, and various other notable contributions, leaving no stone unturned in illustrating the profound impact of the Senator's endeavors on his constituents and Abia state in general.
While appreciating the Senator for his commendable initiatives, the president of the Youth Forum appealed to the senator to remain focused and determined so that the wind of his projects can extend to other untouched areas.
In response, Senator Akobundu conveyed his profound satisfaction towards the coordination and unity exhibited by the Oloko Youths Forum, emphasizing the significance of forming a cohesive bloc. He affirmed his dedication to ensuring that the aspirations of young people are duly recognized and safeguarded, emphasizing his commitment to nurturing a promising future for them.
The Distinguished Senator also expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support demonstrated by the youths during the just concluded election. He commended their steadfast belief in the cause and their unwavering optimism that positive outcomes would emerge from their collective efforts.
In articulating his vision for the youths, Senator Akobundu said, "My commitment is unwavering in enhancing youth engagement and participation in governance processes. Empowering the youths is paramount because it is through this that they can actively shape the trajectory of governance, ensuring their voices are not only heard, but also heeded."
Looking ahead, Senator Akobundu said, "There are palpable youth centered projects and initiatives in the pipeline, and in the coming months, they will be unveiled. These projects are poised to sustain meaningful progress, and creating an environment ripe for palpable transformation in the lives of the vibrant Youth of Abia Central." He concluded.
